Oscar Lovelace, quixotic challenger for the GOP nod for governor, is more eloquent than the incumbent and knows it: “I just believe strongly that the governor is missing some critical leadership skills” — communication, cooperation and common sense. “Our governor has never been CEO of anything before we made him CEO of South Carolina,” said the family doctor who has built a practice with 38 employees and 15,000 patients. “Our governor has never attended a public school in South Carolina…. I can speak from the bully pulpit. Mark Sanford can’t, because he hasn’t had the real-world experiences.”
Oscar Lovelace has no platform which is acceptable to intelligent Republicans.
He has taken almost no positions. He just opposes Sanford personally.
Apparently he is for throwing more money at public education, but he won’t say how much, for what programs, and why he thinks that will do any good.
As usual Lee is incorrect.
I am not a Lovelace supporter (yet) but it is getting more interesting everyday.
Well, David, correct us by giving us the platform of Lovelace. I have only heard him discuss spending more money on public education, without any reasons.
I want someone who will prioritize spending, eliminate all the waste and corruption, and justify what remains with certifiable results.
All the waste and corruption won’t ever be eliminated.
What some people consider waste – others consider necessary, basic services. I agree there is a ton of waste – but a lot of folks don’t.
What some see as corruption or just bad government (See Senator McConnell), others see as worthy and “He has to get his for his folks.”
Take a look at his website, read some of his thoughts.
I am not a supporter but it looks half way interesting.
Greedy people consider everything they want to be a necessity, and they don’t care about how they get it. They will use government to take at gunpoint what they are unable or too lazy to earn by work.
Socrates and Plato recognized that. Socrates was killed for pointing out that very corruption of Athenian democracy.
That is why this country was set up as a very limited representative republic, with only a few things government should do, which benefited no special interests, but the public good of all.
The only problem I have with Dr. Lovelace at the present time is his lack of any position on most issues, and his lack of specificity on the few that he does address.
His most detailed statement is on promoting economic development, but it is just a list of general things thrown out to be different from Sanford. It demonstrates no understanding of what Sanford, and other governors, have done wrong regarding development.
Here’s a Lovelace issue, he is the only candidate in the GOP primary that is for property tax relief.
Lovelace is the only Republican in the race, taking on the incumbent Libertarian. Are you Republicans going to cross the line and vote for a Libertarian?!
Lovelace may be weak in qualifications, and I wish he was more outspoken and forceful in his campaign. But from what I see, he’s a decent guy, sincere in his desire to improve education and health care.
Sanford is a spoiled rich guy, completely out of touch. He had his chance and he squandered it.
You won’t meet a nicer person than Oscar Lovelace.
He could run for president and win someday. You blew it big time by going for Sanford.
