Hey, look, Ma! I’m on TV!

We’re on the air at ETV as I type this. How about watching and giving me real-time feedback… hold on… just did a live bit. Walter Edgar’s talking now.

Anyway, please watch and sound off. Let’s make a little S.C. blog history.

With 70 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat John Yarmuth is slightly ahead of U.S. Rep. Anne Northup in the 3rd Congressional District race.
The national pundits explained this is huge because the dem is on the liberal side and has no business being a close race.

Brad: I love you like a brother. But if I were a journalist on TV tonight, I would not have you on the program. You are biased because you’ve already chosen sides…mostly Democrat.

  3. Herb Brasher

Watching, Brad. You look very distinguished. Any idea what the early results on ghe governor’s race mean?

    Brad,
Greetings from Marion! I’m enjoying the ETV coverage. I’m switching back and forth between you and CNN to get the state and national perspective. Grow yourself a beard and they’ll be calling you Wolf Warthen. I hope Rex holds his lead!

Brad, I think you made a great point. Maybe the Sanford is getting the message from the voters in the state super race regarding his voucher plan.
We have a fire engine red state in which all republicans were elected for the other state offices. Floyd has been running for office for 18 months with a well greased machine and message. Given this, there is a mere sliver of votes separating the voucher candidate from the education candidate. The only other close race involved SC-22 who repeatedly shot himself in the foot.
There is no way to consider this a mandate for the voucher scheme.

That’s true enough Randy. But are you going to try and convince us that Rex got a mandate to carry on business as usual? Ed

  7. Brad Warthen

No, and fortunately he has never had the slightest intention of carrying on "business as usual." Neither have the rest of us who have been fighting for years to reform and improve our schools before a bunch of people who haven’t been paying attention decided it would be keen to just abandon the concept of public education altogether, it being so much trouble and all.

Here are some of my notes on the Rex agenda. It is sweeping, it is comprehensive, and it is based upon actual knowledge of the system instead of an ideological fantasy. The contrast to Karen Floyd’s insubstantial proposals is dramatic.

Ed, I think Floyd getting so many votes is a function of her well run campaign and a demand for reform.
If you go back and look through my “ornery” posts, you’d see that I am for reform. I was highly critical of Rex. What angered and still angers me is that all this focus on the voucher scheme diverted attention from the real problems – which NEITHER candidate addressed in their campaigns.
Brad is more optimistic of the reforms in motion that I am. While I think we are moving in the right direction, there is a great deal overlooked.
