One side benefit of my latest policy is that I don’t have to bother seeking out "spam" pseudo-comments and deleting them. Like other comments, if I don’t take positive action to approve them, they don’t get posted.
That’s a good thing right now, because there has been a sharp uptick in the number of such bits of electronic trash in recent days. And their shameless purveyors are turning to ever-more devious methods of grabbing the attention of the unsuspecting reader.
Sometimes, I have to smile at their desperation, such as on this one:

I am reminded of the old "Saturday Night Live" routine in which Kevin Nealon would portray "Mr. Subliminal," muttering suggestive asides during perfectly normal, everyday conversation — and actually make people do his bidding.
Obviously, this spammer believes such things can actually work. The sad thing is, he/she/it may be right.
