FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

At first, I thought this was a case of Obama making the point that THIS is how you deal with a disaster (as opposed to the Katrina mess).

But then I thought, This is Iowa. He’d better be nice to those folks. He owes them, big-time. That’s where it all started…

    Iowa State Motto:
“Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain”
How about the right to the liberty of an informed, civil, unbiased election of our country’s president?!?

And it has to be one or the other? Can’t be both? Seems to me he has managed to be polite to most folks.

Barak can act polite because the media is in the tank for him and will do all the hits on his opponents, as we saw them do.
What a politician says to get elected means nothing. Look at what he does, his friends, cronies, associates, and financial backers.
    Barak’s circle stinks.

I’m surprised he called off his trip.
Based on bud and Karen and the rest of his flock, not to mention the socialist BS he preaches, I would have thought Obama could walk on water, turn the ocean to wine and make it rain toads with incandescent tongues in the desert.
He will turn us into a third-world country for the sake of placating the pathetic.
Vote Warthen. At least he has no chance of winning.

As an aside I find it interesting that Obama canceled his trip to Iowa because of flooding issues. Why in the world would we even think about building in a flood plain?? This is one of the very few areas where South Carolina is ahead of the nation. We’ve simply stayed out of the flood plains and built elsewhere. BOOO Green Diamond (or whatever it’s called now).

I checked the web sites of the TV Stations in Cedar Rapids, KCRG, and KGAN. There are evacuations along the Cedar River. The Cedar Rapids Gazette, http://www.gazetteonline.com/, has coverage of the flood and photos.
    From the WeatherUnderground:
    April 2008:
Precip: Actual Month Total: 6.55 Normal month total: 3.22
    May 2008:
Precip: Actual Month Total: 6.42 Normal month total: 3.85
    June 2008 through June 11, 2008:
Precip: To date: 5.71 Normal to date: 1.63 Normal month total: 4.49
For more than half of April, May, and June, it has rained; sometimes 1 to 2 inches or more per day. Given all the rain that Iowa has had, if South Carolina had that kind of rain, we would be having some floods also.
Flood stage of the Cedar River at Cedar Rapids is 12 st. NOAA is predicting it will crest at 24.5 ft on Friday, 6/13. The reports are saying that it will be higher than the 1993 flood.
Obama was right to cancel the appearance in Iowa; there is no need to divert resources from the preparations, sandbagging, and evacuations.

More important is Obama’s Memorial Day weekend graduation speech at Wellesley, the topic being public service, which never mentioned military service.
