Sent back “(500) Days of Summer,” which as I noted was fine for the first 499 days, but blew the ending. In exchange, Netflix says it has sent me “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog” (excerpted above), which I’m really looking forward to. Looks like it will cleanse the palate even better than “Surrogates,” which I have at home but have not yet watched.
I’m a big Joss Whedon fan. No, that’s a lie. I’ve never even seen an episode of “Buffy,” or “Angel,” or any of those shows. What I am is a huge fan of “Firefly.” I own the full DVD set. I’ve owned it for a couple of years now, and STILL haven’t let myself watch the final (unaired) episode. But I will, soon.
And I see this has Nathan Fillion in it. Excellent! Can’t wait.
“Dr. Horrible” also features nerdboy dream girl Felicia Day, whom you might recognize from current Sears commercials and the finale from Wheedon’s brilliant “Dollhouse.” (Annoyingly, Wheedon filmed a two-part finale but Fox only aired the second half, causing viewer whiplash.)
How great can Dollhouse be, though, if neither Nathan Fillion nor the incomparable Adam “Jayne” Baldwin is in it?
What?!? Burl you’ve been holding out on us… I had no idea Felicia was in those… I’m off to rearrange my Netflix queue so I get this as soon as Brad’s done with it… Felicia Day FTW!
Whedon needs to dump FOX. You’d think he’d have learned by now.
Brad, how did you make any sense of Serenity if you haven’t watched the full DVD box set?
Actually, I HAVE watched all the episodes, except the last one. Saving it.
But I did see “Serenity” before I had ever seen any of the TV series, and it was quite enjoyable without having seen any of it. In fact, that’s what pulled me in.
Of course, I have watched “Serenity” since getting the TV series — several times. In fact, I also own the movie on DVD.
Very shiny.
Alas, Felicia Day is only in the last episode of “Dollhouse.”
Nathan Fillion was terrific in “Waitress.”
And in fact, “Waitress” is on right now, on the Lifetime network.
Incidentally, right after I finished watching “Dr. Horrible” — which, I have to say, was a disappointment. The part excerpted above was the best part. The quality continued throughout the first and second acts.
But the ending? Hard to take. Since it ended after 40 minutes, I kept expecting the movie to resume after the credits, with a “we were just kidding” sort of message, and then resume the story until a more satisfactory ending.
But the songs were great, especially “Freeze Ray,” which has been stuck in my head for days now. So were Doogie and Felicia and Captain Mal…
But I gotta say, sweet as Felicia is, in the Whedon ‘verse my heart belongs to Christina Hendricks.
In the Mad Men ‘verse, too. Far as I’m concerned, Joan’s the only sympathetic character on the show…
Joan’s also the only competent one.
Yeah, Dr. Horrible ended horribly! So much so, it made me laugh. Wheedon is an evil genius.
