VINCENT SHEHEEN FOR GOVERNORColumbia, SC — Today former Gov. James H. Hodges announced his support for Sen. Vincent Sheheen in his campaign for governor. Hodges served as governor of South Carolina from 1998-2002.
“It is my pleasure to endorse Sen. Vincent Sheheen for governor of South Carolina,” said Hodges. “Vincent’s the best candidate to bring new jobs to South Carolina, the best candidate to reinvigorate public education, and the best candidate to lead the Democratic ticket to victory in November.”
In response to Hodges’ endorsement, Sen. Sheheen offered the following comments:
“I’m honored to have Gov. Hodges’ support,” said Sheheen. “As the next governor of South Carolina, I’ll restore the commitment to job creation and public education that Gov. Hodges brought to the governor’s office.”
Sheheen continued, “South Carolina is at a crossroads. It’s time to turn the page on the last eight years and offer a new generation of leadership that will unite the people of our state and bring us together to tackle the challenges we face.”

I’m not sure why the focus seems a little off on that video. Usually, it looks better than that. The resolution is high — the files are HUGE, which is why it takes so long to get them onto YouTube and post them. The autofocus must have picked up on the wrong thing, and being indoors, I suppose the depth of field wasn’t so great…
I’ll try to do better.
And if you don’t like MY video, here’s the campaign’s official version…
Voters were so impressed with Governor Hodges job creation efforts that they sent him home after one term, choosing Mark Sanford by a 53-47 margin in 2002.
My opinion on the lottery Governor Hodges implemented has changed over the years. Mainly because it became apparent that the state government wouldn’t treat the money as “extra” and instead used the LIFE scholarships to allow the state colleges to increase their tuitions to basically make the scholarship nearly worthless.
Better that we abandon the lottery and allow private casino gambling. That would actually create jobs and remove the excess funds from being wasted by the legislature.
