Forgot to post this yesterday when I saw the news:
Peter Parker isn’t the only man trying to hide his identity by donning a Spider-Man mask.
A robber wearing the web slinger’s mask was spotted in two robberies June 11 in the Midlands.
In the first incident, the masked man and an accomplice swung into Computer MD in the 4400 block of St. Andrews Road, swiped four laptops and ran out the front door, Lexington County deputies say.
The store’s owner tried to chase them but couldn’t catch the men before they made off for the woods…
This, of course, vindicates J. Jonah Jameson, who’s been telling the world that webhead is a crook for years.
We editor types always know what’s really going on.
The best thing in the last three Spider-Man movies was J.K. Simmons’ wonderfully energetic, bombastic performance as J. Jonah.
Things like that make me smile because back in my city editor days, I was a little bit like that myself. Except younger, and handsomer.
I can’t ever look at Simmons without recalling his role in HBO’s “Oz” as Vern Schillenger, a white supremacist gang leader. He was pure evil.
You missed WIS’ headline on it the other day:
“Spider-Man or Spider-Menace?”

I hate to say it, since that was TV, but they wrote a better headline than the paper had…
The problem is he was trying to portray an editor from the 1950’s in the year 2010. Nothing matched up, look at the picture above, the story line is modern, but his dress (wide tie, tie clip, suspenders) and his office say 1950’s except for the computer monitor. They might have used the set from Johnny Dangerously for that scene. He might as well be wearing a zoot suit complete with pocket watch chain.
Actually, Steven, his outfit is not that different from what I wore to work. The tie clasp is out of date, as is the haircut and the cigar. But that’s part of the character. Jameson was always supposed to be out of sync with the times. Add to that the fact that he’s a comic book character.
“Actually, Steven, his outfit is not that different from what I wore to work.”
Yeah, but we all know you like to dress like it’s either 1930 or 1950. I’m surprised you haven’t completed your wardrobe with a collection of fedora style hats.
