I just wanted to write that headline about this item, which I just read on Slate:
New York mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner lost a key member of his already tiny staff when his campaign manager quit Saturday. The New York Times was first to report news that 31-year-old Danny Kedem decided to pack his bags following a week of embarrassing revelations that Weiner continued to exchange racy messages and photos with women after he resigned from Congress in 2011. Weiner confirmed the news Sunday morning: “Danny has left the campaign,” Weiner said. “He did a remarkable job.”…
At lunch today, I happened to ask Samuel Tenenbaum how things were going, and he said he was depressed from following the news. Specifically, he cited the Weiner mess as further evidence that things are going down the tubes. He said something about his being yet another obnoxious narcissist.
I said the worst part is that these days, people will actually vote for someone like that.
But the fact that this guy quit gives me hope. Of course, maybe there’s something he knew that we don’t. Slate also noted today that Weiner hasn’t answered the question of whether he is still sexting…
I still can’t believe that the girl he was (most recently) sexting with is named “Sydney Leathers”.
That’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
I also am loving the name Sydney Leathers. It totally sounds like a nom de porn.
Or an action star…
Coming this fall to TNT, “Weathers and Leathers” a gritty crime drama starring Carl Weathers and Sydney Leathers. One is an aging star of Hollywood blockbuster movies, the other is a young college graduate and aspiring Democratic politico. Together, they are Weathers and Leathers, the hottest detective duo in Los Angeles! Wednesday nights, this fall, starting at 8 PM Eastern, 7 PM Central.
Excellent
“His already tiny staff”- that’s what she said!
Zing!
Why do we care about Anthony Weiner?
What about TRav driving drunk after paying polo in the Hamptons. Still a challenger for Lindsey?
No, I don’t believe so…
What Weiner illustrates is that the media, quite literally, was willing to believe ANYTHING that a liberal told them. Maddow et al. was out there every night promoting the “Anthony Weiner was hacked” story. But no one ever mentions that now. I’ll say this for MSNBC and liberals in general; they’re very forgiving of their own errors in that they really don’t dwell on them.
The whole media expressed confusion as to why a middle aged man would send pictures of himself to a college girl. It just baffled them. (Ok, not everyone. Some media folks demonstrated that they have half a brain cell.)
On one hand the media was saying “He’s the victim of a vicious smear-hack” and on the other hand they were saying “Boys will be boys” and just trying to laugh it off. I guess some people wanted to believe. We can’t all be rationalists, right?
However, I would think that we would expect more from journalists that to simply shill for their team. The whole thing shows that journalists will believe anything a liberal tells them, but conservatives are lying liars who lie.
Heck, just what, two months ago, the New York Times wrote a wonderfully glowing piece about Weiner and just pretended the whole thing never happened and made it seem like Weiner called a press conference to confess all of the allegations, but left out the fact that additional pictures were released that morning FORCING Weiner to call the press conference. To this day, they’re still lying.
Facts are stubborn things.
Wake me up when the press starts saying that Ravenel’s blood alcohol level was “hacked” or that aliens came down from outer space and pumped alcohol into his bloodstream.
The story isn’t the losers who somehow inevitably get into politics, it the story of the press enabling/covering for them. (See also, Filner).
T Rav made some claims to that his case was not by the book. Still, polo in the Hamptons? Eat cake much?
The most plausible Weiner accounts suggest he is bipolar. Makes sense.
More likely Weiner suffers from Type 1 Diabetes. Or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This could explain his ridiculous behavior.
Kathryn, you’re not being very sympathetic to Rich White Men’s Problems…
One can be positively DRAINED after a day of polo followed by drinks at the club. One could perspire…
Now when I think of Ravenel, this is what I think of:
Hey now! SC is industrious about providing the polo ponies and training facilities around Camden and Aiken. That’s on the plus side.
Then there is the fact that Ravenel has the time and means to apply himself to getting quite good at the sport. And not too good at anything else.
He seems to be pretty good at screwing up….
Gee, Bryan, from what I’ve read in the media it is pretty clear that Weiner is a giant douche bag and that the sordid details have been extensively reported. I missed all this obfuscation; was FOX trumpeting that early this am while you were making your coffee?
The entertainers on MSNBC and Fox News are not journalists. They are puppets performing a show for a captive audience of true believers. They say the things their audience wants to hear. Their goal is ratings (and the dollars associated with those ratings), not the truth.
Bryan – I wouldn’t worry about what people like Maddow, Matthews, Hannity, O’Reilly say. They have a biased agenda to inflame their bases and profit from it.
Not sure if it was on the news or not, I wasn’t watching. I was having a hard time sleeping this AM, so I started reading the NY Times article from a few months ago that was written with the intent of rehabilitating a mayoral candidate.
That’s what got me revved up along with Kathryn’s question of “Why do we care” which I took to be minimizing the issue. (That’s what she said!) 🙂
The silver lining is that NY City residents are no longer allowed to make fun of SC for Sanford. What Sanford did looks downright old-fashioned and wholesome compared to New York City’s Mayoral candidate. (This is not to be construed in any way condoning/minimizing anything Sanford did.)
Politicians are slimy. In other related news, water is wet.
Not minimizing the, um, issue, for NYC voters. Just saying we got plenty to attend to in our very own sandbox
I hope we’ve seen the last of T-Rav…. but that’s not how Thomas Ravenel rolls….
And not saying that someone with poorly controlled bipolar disease is any more fit for office than someone with poorly controlled diabetes is fit to drive, although the latter ought to be able to walk into a dry cleaners….
