Someone complained that y’all hadn’t had one of these in a while, so here ya go.

Choose whatever topic you like. Possibilities:

What then to do about Syria, or does it truly have impunity to use WMD? (The latest is that the U.N. team that took the government up on its offer to inspect the site is reported to have taken fire on its way in.)

How ’bout them Cocks? No. 6, yo. (Sorry; I’ve been watching too much Jesse Pinkman lately.) Enjoy it while it lasts, or is this the start of a championship season?

Oh, and did you notice that, thanks to Doug Ross, the bradwarthen.com Walk for Life team is already more than halfway to its goal? The rest of y’all, get out and rustle up some filthy lucre…

I keep getting accosted by these petition-signature-getters. At home and around town. The one who came to my house was really rude. Anyone else had any interaction with them?

Yes, one came to my door last Thursday. He was annoyingly persistent but polite. And he was back on my street Sunday afternoon.

After I ran mine off I went out in front of the house and called the cops. That’s when she yelled at me. They were all over the Latin Festival on Main Street Saturday though, probably a dozen of them.

If it just takes a few thousand signatures to get a ballot initiative going, let’s start one asking voters to support divesting the water & sewer system from City Council’s control, spinning it off into a separate entity to prevent future fund transfers.

I’m usually pretty mellow! I am quick to call the police on door-to-door salesmen, scammers and Irish Travellers, though.

A seperate water and sewer authority would be a great idea. The system has outgrown the the city and their old style management. Not another penny should be transferred until the system is in proper working order. What would it take? Can it be done?

I don’t see why we couldn’t start a petition drive to get it on the ballot, the same way that the “Strong Mayor” campaigners are doing.

Nobody but Seth Rose and Daniel Coble has ever bothered to deal with the hill in University Hill….

Too many transient residents, too steep a grade….

Moe’s been door-to-door in our neighborhood. Cameron went door-to-door there too when he was running last time as well. It’s an easy neighborhood to canvas though. Dense and the houses are close to the sidewalks.

I tried selling encyclopedias door to door when I was in college. That was a horrible job. We were trained to be pushy and most folks were like Silence. I try to be polite with the door to door nuisances when they stop in. They’re usually just young folks trying to make a few bucks for college. But I never, ever buy anything.

On a sad note, Linda Ronstadt has lost her singing voice due to Parkinson’s Disease. Tragic in the sense of the loss of a great voice, one of the all-time best.

I’ve been a Ronstadt fan for as long as I can remember. She did a lot of Latin and standards stuff during the 80s and 90s, so she kind of faded from public view. She even did an album of lullabies back in 1996. Heartbreaking to think that voice is silenced. I think I’ll put some on…

For one of her best, try “Long, Long Time” when she sang it on The Midnight Special in the early 70s. It was a minor hit but unbelievably good. You can find it on YouTube. Her voice had a great range and she put so much emotion into her songs, which made her very special. To me, the greatest musical instrument is the voice and hers was one of the very best.

Like Norm, have been listening to her songs for a couple of days now.

My top 8 Linda Ronstadt songs, because I couldn’t narrow it down to 5:

    1. Mohammed’s Radio
    2. In My Reply
    3. La Charreada (really shows what she can do with her voice)
    4. When You Wish Upon a Star (Only Leon Redbone and Jiminy Cricket do it better)
    5. Lo Siento Mi Vida (Spanish-language song anyone can understand even without the English stanza)
    6. Blue Bayou
    7. Long Long Time
    8. Ramblin’ Round
