The Saluda River is still rising at Quail Hollow

Remember this picture (shown below) from earlier in the day?

Well, the Saluda has continued to rise steadily through the day. At 5:20 (above), it only needed to rise another couple of inches before it would get into the neighborhood pool, which is right next to the river.

I talked to my sister in Camden earlier today; it sound like y’all may be on track to beat out the Great Nashville Flood of 2010 (she’s measured 17 inches on her backyard gauge so far). Stay safe.

The Saluda is still rising because SCEG has had to open the spillway to keep the lake level managed. There is a voluntary evacuation for people living within 1/4 mile of the Saluda. That is me – and I’m guessing maybe you. But you said you are up the hill. We are up on a bluff too, near the zoo botanical gardens. I talked to West Columbia Police. The deputy couldn’t tell me what to do but basically agreed that if the water gets to me then everybody will have really big problems. So we are not leaving.

    Here’s the info:

We lucked out up here. Made a trip from Seneca to Canton, NC, Saturday afternoon, returning just in time to catch the kickoff of the Clemson-Notre Dame game without incident. Backyard swimming pool didn’t even overflow (though I did blow off better than an inch of water before the NC trip…). No trees down here, either.

In-laws in Awendaw are pretty much cut off from the world, as of yesterday afternoon with US 17 flooded between them and Charleston.

My house is on high ground near Lake Katherine, but my parents had to be rescued by boat yesterday afternoon. All safe and sound now, but Shady Lane is still cut off. We just tried to get back over there, but Gills Creek is still over the banks and flooding the bridge.
