WAY better than watching political conventions...

WAY better than watching political conventions…

If you’re wondering “Where’s Brad?,” I’m on holiday, as our friends who recently exited Europe would say. And it’s kind of a hassle to find a table near an electrical plug and crank the laptop up. Hard enough even glancing over essential email, much less write.

But there are topics that need addressing:

  1. President Trump? — Nate Silver is trying to terrify us, and succeeding. A 57.5 percent chance that Donald Trump will become president of THESE United States, not the United States on the Bizarro World. I hereby delegate it to all of y’all to freak out (as I see some of you have been doing already) for me, as I am, as previously mentioned, on holiday.
  2. Wikileaks hates America even more than we thought — We knew Assange was all about damaging the United States any way he could, but this DNC thing, with this timing, apparently in League with Trump buddy and Snowden protector Vladimir Putin, is the most diabolical attempt to sabotage this country’s electoral processes ever. I cannot imagine anything more evil than trying to rig the American election so that Donald Trump wins. Oh, as for the substance of the leaks — well, I would certainly hope the Democratic National Committee was rooting for the only Democrat who was seeking the party’s nomination. Wouldn’t you?
  3. Sanders supporters need to grow the ____ up — Of course, the implied word there is “heck.” Seriously, booing every mention of Clinton on the first day of the convention? OK, so now the list of people who have swung to the Trump camp includes Wikileaks, Putin, Russian hackers… and Sanders supporter.
  4. The convention itself — I hear that the schedule for tonight features speeches by Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. So, there’s probably not going to be a lot that I want to hear. And did I mention that I’m on holiday? But my wife and son have already tuned one of the house’s TVs to the thing, and I don’t suppose I’ll manage to miss all of it. If that’s the case, then you’ll see comments from me on Twitter. But for the moment, I’m going to slip into another room and see what my grandchildren are doing. I never find anything they have to say offensive…

To quote Flounder on Animal House, “Oh boy is this great!!!”.

And I thought when I got up today it was just going to be a normal Monday. Seeing the DNC in a mad panic just made my day.

I suspect the majority of Bernie supporters will not vote for this office or likely stay home.

There is a new call for Trump to release his tax returns, because of the hacking do the DNC emails. The Atlantic implies he needs release his returns to prove who he does or doesn’t do business with. He should have released his returns already, anyway. Why hasn’t the RNC required it?

Yeah, if he’s in bed with the Russians I’m sure he’d list that on his tax forms.

It’s hilarious how Democrats have parrotted the Russian angle to try and deflect the corruption in the DNC.

Unbelievable, I write this at 7:33, Doug says the exact same thing at 8:04 and here my comment sits.

Which is a point of frustration. You have a handful of people who can post freely, but the others only get to have their comments posted as you have time. Maybe delegate one or two of your unmoderated members rights to approve messages.

Corruption? Debbie Wasserman Shultz is out. Bernie, the “victim” has made peace with it. The real scandal is Trumps possible ties to the Russians.

    2. Tex

It’s a conspiracy, I say conspiracy… the Russians are behind it. Not a word about the fact that these are legitimate e-mail messages sent by people in the DNC.

FLOTUS speech last night was simply amazing. Probably will be the best of the 2 conventions. Even Trump said it was good!

    Three latest polls:

General Election: Trump vs. Clinton LA Times/USC Trump 47, Clinton 40 Trump +7
Missouri: Trump vs. Clinton KSDK-TV/SurveyUSA* Trump 47, Clinton 37 Trump +10
Kansas: Trump vs. Clinton Fort Hays St. University* Trump 44, Clinton 27 Trump +17

Kansas and Missouri were won by Romney in 2012 so no huge surprise.

But I think we’re seeing now that Trumps “floor” in electoral votes is probably in the ballpark of what Romney got (206) and not McCain in 2008 (173). If Trump keeps all the Romney states and flips Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, he wins. Other possible flips would include Iowa and Michigan. The election will come down to the Rust Belt.

The question for Democrats is “Where are you going to find votes in states that aren’t blue if you lose Ohio and Pennsylvania?” Do you REALLY want it to come down to hanging chads in Florida again?
