Not my style, but I got a kick out of it…

I ran across this (slightly poorly cropped) photo of the reaction of Chicago’s two newspapers. I only ever worked at papers that took the Tribune’s approach — proper, sober, respectful, matter-of-fact. A bit of local pride expressed, but cool about it.

And that’s still the way for me.

But I got a kick out of The Sun-Times approach.

Too bad Chris Farley is no longer with us. SNL could have had some fun with the news. “Da Bears!”…

    Here’s another Chicagoan’s way of celebrating…

    As I try to do most days, I did today’s readings at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops site, and then watched the video reflection, delivered today by Deacon Arthur L. Miller of Hartford.

    He doesn’t get to why he’s wearing that hat until the end (starting at 4:16), but then he discloses that like the new pope, he’s from the South Side. And his mother was a Creole, just like the pope’s great-grandmother. He says he’d like to think that means they’re cousins. But he KNOWS they’re brothers…
