A campaign theme song, maybe?

This morning, before I remembered that word, I was distracted by an earworm. The one above. I had heard it yesterday, and it had come back to mind today, possibly because of the Israeli election today. If you don’t know why it would make me think of Bibi, you haven’t been paying attention.

Speaking of people who don’t pay attention to international affairs (and are not a bit ashamed of that fact, in spite of having the nerve to run for high national office), that made me think of Darline Graham.

Maybe she should adopt this as her campaign song. I’m not saying I think Darline wants to nuke most of the humans in the world while charitably sparing the kangaroos. I’m just saying it would show that she had at least thought, for maybe a split second, about the rest of the world — even if not in the most constructive manner.

I would enjoy that more than most things, maybe any things, I’ve seen from her campaign. I’m a big Randy Newman fan. He may or may not be better songwriter than Bob Dylan, but no one can touch him when it comes to extremely edgy irony. (Which might also hurt Bob’s feelings, come to think of it.) Think about “Sail Away.” Think about “Rednecks,” if you know it (you’re certainly unlikely to hear it on the radio, which may be a good thing.)

It’s certainly the sharpest mockery I’ve ever heard about the grotesque ignorance and thoughtlessness of too many American voters (and voters from other countries, alas) with regard to global affairs, history, and other essentials.

Sorry it made me think of you, Darline. That probably isn’t fair, despite what you’ve said about yourself. I was just trying to think of a news peg for sharing today’s earworm…
