More Howard Rich: The plot sickens

Turns out I forgot a couple of sources on that last post about how Howard Rich is trying to set the agenda for South Carolina with little regard to what we, the mere voters, want. Of course, he needs our complicity in that. But he is apparently operating on the oft-proven principle that enough money can fool enough people to vote the way he wants, even though the result is unlikely to be what they want.

Here’s a blog devoted entirely to the subject of his S.C. machinations. (Laurin says this is ALSO from Ross Shealy.)

Here’s another that goes into the fact that he’s doing this in other states across the nation. Our Howie is nothing if not ambitious.

In fact, so much attention has been focused on Mr. Rich in the past week that I’ve begun to wonder whether he is distracting us from other sources. He’s not the only out-of-state puppetmaster. Is he the main one? I don’t know. How about that Alex Cranberg guy mentioned in the Charleston story?

  1. The Cackalacky Candidate

    Mr. Warthen,
Does this mean that they will be changing the education standards to include the teaching of Social Darwinism???
    Try this trail of crumbs:
Mark Sanford appoints Karen Iocavelli to the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (SCEOC).
On Barbeque and Politics, it came to light that Ms. Iocavelli had added her name to a proclamation ( on an I-hate-public-schools website) that states, “I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education”
(Assume that ‘ending government involvement in education’ means cutting all taxpayer funding for public schools.)
Shortly after this disclosure Ms. Iocavelli abruptly resigns from the SCEOC, due to health reasons.
(Ms. Iacovelli’s name has since been removed from said I-hate-public-schools website petition. Laurin caught her on this one.)
The I-hate-public-schools website with the “I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education” proclamation is the creation of the Alliance for the Separation of School & State.
Marshall Fritz is the President and Founder of the Alliance for the Separation of School & State.
Marshall Fritz the Founder and Board Member of the Advocates for Self Government.
Andrea Rich is on the Board of Advisors for the Advocates for Self Government.
Andrea Rich is the wife of Howard Rich.
Howard Rich is the NY, NY sugar daddy who is apparently bankrolling SCRG and who is also apparently directing numerous political contribution to Mark Sanford, via numerous entities with the address of 73 Spring Street, New York, NY.
Howard Rich is on the board of directors of the Cato Institute, that endorsed Mark Sanford.
A Google keywork search for “John Stossel” and “Howad Rich” yields a photograph of John Stossel on the cover of the Cato (Institute) Policy Report.
    http://www.cato.org/pubs/policy_report/v24n4/cpr-24n4.pdf
John Stossel hosted a television show called ‘Stupid in America’, where Governor Mark Sanford took the opportunity to make South Carolina look so very bad to the rest of the United States of America.
Howard Rich is listed as a member of the Leadership Council of the National Club For Growth, along with George Mitchell.
The South Carolina Club For Growth is a Political Action Committee that endorses or targets political candidates. They endorse Mark Sanford.
Karen Iocavelli is on the Board of Directors for The South Carolina Club For Growth.
George Mitchell is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company. (Does this also mean that Mickey Mouse also hates public schools???)
The Walt Disney Company owns ABC News.
ABC New produces a pseudo news show called 20/20.
20/20 produced John Stossel’s ‘Stupid in America’ where South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford took the opportunity to make the state of South Carolina look so very bad to the rest of the United States of America.

Stossey is Geraldo 2.0. He’s become a propoganda machine. The Stupid in America was a poorly researched informercial.
For example, they compared a high school in the US with a high school in Belgium (I believe). In Belgium they have 4 different types of high schools: 1 for the arts, 1 for vocational students, 1 for academic students and 1 other type (I’d have to look it up). The type they used is never revealed.
The high school in the US was chosen as one of the top in the US by Newsweek based mostly on AP scores. While this DC school may have had a fraction of its students acing the AP, the rest of the school was in near ruin. A parent walking through the school was quoted as being shocked that this financially devasted school could exist in the US.
Not only was the sample used for comparison too small, the comparison was apples to pumpkins. Unfortunately, Stossey has true believers drinking his koolaid.

John Stossel, the libertarian TV journalist who reports on government waste like hurricane insurance from FEMA, which encourages people to build houses in the path of destruction because the taxpayers will rebuild their house.
