The last few days, my browser has been freezing up whenever I go to my main page — which, unfortunately, I have to do a lot.
When it happens, at long last I get a dialog box that says:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
I always click "stop script," and go on with my business. I don’t even know what it means.
I had sort of thought it was a problem with my laptop, but then the desktop started doing the same thing.
All I can guess is that there’s just too much stuff on that main page. Maybe I need to reduce the number of posts that appear there. (I think it’s set to show a month’s worth, but that’s way over 100 posts now, and maybe that’s just too much.)
Before I take the time to tinker around with guesses, though, I’m curious: Are y’all having the same trouble? That would increase the urgency to try to do something.
Brad … For as long as I can remember, you’ve had a scripting error on this site that prevents it from loading completely. Here’s the debug detail for your techs:
Line: 40
Char: 2
Error: ‘stat_dir’ is undefined
Code: 0
Where do I find that? You see, I’m my own tech, except when I turn to TypePad, which I do only when desperate.
Brad … Go into Internet Explorer, Tools/Internet Options. In the dialogue box, click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to “Browsing.” Uncheck both “Disable script debugging” checkboxes. Reload your web site, watch the lower left corner of the browser window for the yellow error icon. Click on the error icon for debugging detail.
Then Google for solutions to the error detail. Good luck. This one is beyond my skill set. You’ll probably still need support to get it fixed.
I caved in and asked TypePad. Sometimes that works, but I am more loathe to do this than to ask directions when my wife thinks I’m lost.
