On this B-A-YOU-tiful Monday, here are your top stories:
- Top Iraq al Qaeda Leaders Killed — The top two guys in the organization are whacked by Iraqi security forces.
- With Profit of $4.4 Billion, Citigroup Turns a Corner — This double ofprofit after two years of red ink is seen as another firm sign of recovery.
- Hopes rise of easing Europe flight chaos — The continuing saga of the volcano no one can pronounce (Eyjafjallajoekull).
- Hodges endorses Sheheen — The former governor, who had stayed out of the primary until now, adds to aura of Vincent’s inevitability.
- Another Columbia youth found shot to death in car — Just another sad crime story, you think? Well, I think the trend argues that there’s more here. One of my daughters was actually saying yesterday that it’s dangerous to be on the street at night because of this — an event which we Dads can attest is rare.
- Pew Poll: Trust In Government Hits Near-Historic Low — The nattering nabobs of negativity (which these days means “Tea Partiers”) must feel a sense of accomplishment at this news.
about the Pew Poll…while most polled want a “less activist” government, 61% favor greater regulation of the financial industry. With Mitch McConnell et al in bed with the Wall Street gang in opposition to seemingly any substantive reform, the GOP seems determined to undermine their own momentum as the elections approach. It’s a long way, but I have a feeling the bar has been set so high for an anticipated GOP landslide that what will actually happen will be quite deflating for the Obama-derangement-syndrome crowd.
Re: Columbia youth and being on the street. I think the deaths are gang-related and seem to be done in a more calculated way than the ones a few years ago that killed people on their front porches and inside their homes in North Columbia.
That said, if the streets one is going to be on are in and around the bar neighborhoods, after, say, midnight–they have always been hazardous–easy pickin’s for the jackals at the watering holes.
Pew Poll: Was this poll taken before, during or after the sermon?
Brfore: you got a snort and a derrogatory remark,Snort.
During:ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzAmen!
After:as long as he goes to church and brings Jesus up every once in a while whether he is a believer or not he alright in my book.
Ready to give up on McCain yet?

“Sen. John McCain praised a tough Arizona anti-immigration bill that will let police arrest people who aren’t carrying identification, the latest move in McCain’s rightward shift in advance of a tough Republican Senate primary this summer.
“I think it’s a very important step forward,” McCain said Monday. “I can fully understand why the legislature would want to act.””

Glad to see he’s “evolved” on the question of immigration. Until he gets elected and then “evolves” again.
What a phony!
As I’ve said, I’m very disappointed in him. The dignified thing would be for him to go ahead and lose. If THIS is what the Republican voter wants now, the honorable thing is to go ahead and lose.
That Fighter Jock ego has kicked in, and he’s doing anything it takes to win, and it is most unseemly. He’s always been able to go right to the top of that ol’ pyramid, and the idea of being knocked off of it in his dotage is a pain he obviously can’t bear.
But he should. He should be who he is, and go down swinging — not accommodating.
