And so it begins. As the WashPost notes:
Mitt Romney is up with a new ad that takes a not-so-subtle swipe at Newt Gingrich. Called “Leader,” the 30-second ad set to go up on the air in New Hampshire and Iowa this week, features old home video footage of Romney, his wife and his kids, with a voiceover of the former governor of Massachusetts saying:
“If I’m President of the United States, I will be true to my family, to my faith, and to our country, and I will never apologize for the United States of America.”
With images of Romney as a dad and as a husband front and center, the obvious contrast is with Gingrich, who has been married three times and has admitted to infidelity. The ad is the most personal look at Romney and his family life so far as he tries to make more of a connection with voters, particularly social conservatives, who still have concerns about Gingrich….
I guess Romney’s really taking those latest poll numbers to heart.
I agree with Clint Eastwood’s recent observation about lawyer Romney:
“I saw a lot of him and you have to admit – he looks like a president. I mean, if you were casting a movie where you needed someone to play president, you’d definitely pick him”.
And there you have it — your new leader. In living color, exuding hope, restoring confidence in ourselves…
Why the apprehension?
Would that be the Newt Gingrich whom Georgetown University history professor Michael Kazin just described yesterday as “an articulate, if savage, exponent of a conservative world-view”? 😉
Mitt Romney, and to a lesser extent Rick Perry, looks like those retro white ad guys Tom Tomorrow uses….
Newt Gingrich is laden with so much baggage from his past that if he were to try to buy a ticket on Southwest Airlines, even they would charge him an excess baggage fee. Come to think of it, the same could be said for most of the Republican candidates, past and present.
Kathryn, why do you hate white people?
Yeah Kathryn, why do you hate white people? Oris it just white guys, young or old? 🙂
@ Mab– because I hate America, and want the terrorists to win, of course!
Middle-aged pompous white guys are actually not very high on my list…humble ones, on the other hand, are awesome!
“”because I hate America, and want the terrorists to win, of course!””…… Kathryn
Just as I suspected. Clever how you hide your burka and veil in your photos. 🙂
I actually just bought a keffiyeh, to support Occupy!

Burkas get too hot in our humidity.
Be really brave, Kathryn, and do it from a bunker in an Islamic country. Those Muhammadans would grab your silly keffiyehd head and bang it so hard against a wall that you would never go “shopping” again.
I’ve always wished the burka would come into fashion here. Bad hair day? Still wearing pj’s? Just not feeling sociable? Perfect!
