But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao…

I’m a guy who likes encountering messages that defy stereotyping. For instance, I was happy this morning to see a car with side-by-side bumper stickers for Republican Leighton Lord and Democrat Jim Rex. Now there, thought I, is a voter who thinks. I may or may not agree with his conclusions, but at least he’s not buying his attitudes off the shelf. Very cool. Very UnParty.

But then, later in the day, I wasn’t sure what to think about the truck I was following that featured, among other things:

  • Several black-and-white line drawings of fish — some living fish in action poses, some fish skeletons.
  • A Confederate flag.
  • A South Carolina state flag.
  • A POW/MIA sticker.
  • The slogan, “I’d rather be kayaking!”
  • The following fragment of “Imagine”: “You May Say I’m A Dreamer/But I’m Not The Only One.”

What did it all mean, Mr. Natural?

I don’t like encountering messages on the backend of vehicles. Especially when they seem to position themselves unnaturally in front of you to force-plant their intrusive thought-seeds. It is a common tactic utilized by gang stalkers who can bug the living hoodoo out of otherwise peaceful beings.

Jim Rex is a darling of some of the powers that be at Nexsen Pruet. Leighton Lord is the head of that firm. Chances are you were next to a pragmatic lawyer who has no substantive political opinions….

A friend recently sent me a photo of a bumper sticker that said, “HONK if you love Jesus. TEXT if you want to meet Him.”

Wow – this is my boyfriends truck – he died in August of this past year. I spent many a happy hour in that ford 150 with him – fishing and exploring. When he died he left it to his brother. And I rued the fact I never took a pic of the tail gate. His brother has added alot of ‘stuff’. Wayne only two or three fishies and a POW sticker in the left window. This really brings back some happy memories, Brad.

That is my truck. As Cynthia Kent mentioned in a previous response, my brother left that truck to me after he passed. I am a native South Carolian with ancestors who fought for the Confederacy during the civil war. One who was actually help prisoner and released by Sherman himself. I actually have copies of the release forms with Shermans signature. So I guess you could say I am a South Carolinian and Confederate at Heart. I share the same passion for fishing as did my brother, so in his honored I have continued to add fish to the tailgate. I do enjoy Kayaking, which is an evergrowing and income generator sport for S.C., Columbia in particular. As far as “You May Say I’m A Dreamer, But I’m Not The Only One.” There are dreams other than those of John Lennon. I consider myself a dreamer. “They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”
I the tailgate shocked you, I’d invite you to look inside the cab and glove box. American Freedoms in true form. Good picture for a cell phone. I saw you take it.
