Me, feigning optimism after voting. Oh, and I just checked, and my thumb isn’t actually as long as the looks. Must be lens distortion or something.
No, “it” does not refer to the nation, or the U.S. Senate, or South Carolina, or the planet. Or the Red Sox’ record (After that amazing, record-setting month, they’ve lost the last three games to teams who absolutely should NOT be beating them. But enough about that. I’m trying not to think about it.)
“It” just means my text queue. See the image below. I took that screenshot of my phone this morning. Every single text you see there is on behalf of someone running for Lindsey’s seat the U.S. Senate. One of them is Democrat Annie Andrews;, the rest are in the GOP primary today.
it won’t be all better tomorrow, just a bit. Maybe. My fear is that all the contributors to the people who lose today will start giving to the two who make it into the runoff, and i’ll still get as many texts. But I try to imagine better times to keep my hopes up.
Anyway, are you out voting today? I voted. Did what I said I would. Not proud about it, but it was the only thing I could think of to minimize the damage.
When I was there preparing to vote around 11 this morning, I was the only person voting, but four or five people were in other stages — signing in, turning in their ballots, etc. In the few seconds it took me to tick that one name, about five more came in and got in line.
So I saw no sign of a mob. If you voted, how did it go where you were? My only complication was that our polling place was moved to Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, which is a couple of blocks from where we once lived, and practically across the street from the elementary school that most of my kids attended (which has been torn down now, alas).
I’ll let y’all know how the Red Sox come out tonight. Maybe you don’t care, but I do. And the chances for happiness are much better there than in S.C. politics at the moment…
1:30 PM in Blythewood. It was me and one other person. Another one entered as I left. Voted Sanford. Saw dozens of Graham signs on the way to the precinct. Such a waste.. but the consultants need to generate income so they just take in money and spend it and take their cut. Some of the lowest lifeforms out there. Prostitutes have a higher moral purpose.
Perhaps not “higher moral” but at least more fun for their clients…
I have not received one text about any election, especially this one. I hate spam texts with a deep hatred as my phone is where I take work related phone calls as my work phone is my phone.
One of the wonderful benefits of unregistering and the updated lists finally making its way to all the absolute scum that send out that crap to mailboxes and phones.

Well, I started getting loads from Democrats when I was working on James Smith’s campaign in 2018. Then, I suspect Republicans learned about it and decided they weren’t going to allow the Dems to have ALL the fun of tormenting me…
Not even a bit better … your smart friend was right, we got a runoff between Graham and Norman. Although honestly, with the Republicans’ slavishness to Trump, there really aren’t any good choices. Even Sanford may have pulled a “Lindsay” once he got the job.
Oh, I just realized I forgot to update y’all on two things last night:
First, the initial vote in this primary turned out as bad as it possibly could: Darline and Ralph in the runoff.
Well, OK, it COULD have been worse ONE way: It could have ended up that Norman and Fry. But that simply wasn’t going to happen. Darline was going to be in it. So assuming that, this is the worst: Graham and Norman is worse than Graham and Fry.
Second, and this hit me harder, personally: The Red Sox lost their FOURTH game in a row after that brilliant run they’d had up to that point. THAT was harder to take, for me. Sure the election has broader impact in the world, but there was never a way that this primary was going to have a GOOD result. I was just trying to make it a little less bad…

Darline Graham thinks there are 50 million people in SC and said that national security is “not my thing” in the debate last night.
A vote for her is a vote for stupidity. Which means she might win.

Anyway, in Darline’s case, I’d say it’s more a vote for ignorance. I can’t speak to her intelligence.
There is always a chance of fixing ignorance, if it’s not accompanied the kind of stupidity and hostility that her opponent (and her chief endorser, Trump) embody. Those guys know nothing, think they know everything, and hate and despise people who actually do know better than they do.
It’s an unpleasant choice.
Of course, wisdom vs. ignorance isn’t the issue in South Carolina. The issue is that the Republican will win, and these are the two Republicans we have to choose between.
I almost certainly will vote for Annie Andrews in November, but to little effect. As for tomorrow, my plan is to try to block Ralph Norman. He is an evil agent who wants to be another Trump. And I’ll be trying to block him by voting for someone I would never consider under any other circumstances — a comparatively mild-mannered woman who is merely grossly unqualified. I see it as comparable to choosing a random person chosen off the street to block someone you absolutely know is bad news. It’s a situation I’ll never feel good about, which is why I’m actually considering not voting. But I won’t cop out. The basic duty of a citizen is to show up and, if no other options are available, vote for the less bad of terrible alternatives…
