Coming up Sunday, June 5…

IN THE STATE:
My Sunday column sets forth the premise that Donnie Myers is a dangerous man, and not just because he tools around in the taxpayers’ Lincoln Town Car with a blood-alcohol level as high as .14, but for reasons that are a lot bigger than one man and his problems with accountability.

ON THE BLOG:
Take a look at the Robert Ariail cartoon we wouldn’t run in the paper, read our reasons why, and then let us know what you think about the decision we made. What was it about? OK, one hint: ItAri0603_1 had to do with "Deep Throat," and it was not the cartoon pictured here, which we did run in the paper.

Also, as the first installment of a new feature called "Deleted Scenes," read the original beginning of the Donnie Myers column. It was a rather long anecdotal lede, and I just didn’t have room for it. Besides, it slowed down getting to my point. Still, I thought it to be a mildly interesting story worth telling.

As a senior citizen (74) living in Lexington County I was angered by Donnie Myers’ senseless, complete disregard for the law he has sworn to enforce. Besides the DUI charge, how can an elected official spend taxpayer’s money for a luxury auto and have no authority to report to for his flagrant spending. Do other county elected officials have that authority and actually do that?
I noted with interest that he had been attending a Solicitor’s meeting in Ashville. Goodness knows, I hope it wasn’t at The Grove Park Inn! I was invited to attend a reunion party there and the rooms were $286.00 (which they say is a “discounted” rate) a night plus tax!! A total of $312.00 a night!!!
Then – there’s the other matter of the Vegas trip which might well add insult to injury.
If he is spending county money for things like that I vote to recall his election to the office of Solicitor.
