Now see, this is why second-grade boys won’t have nuthin’ to do with girls. You make one lousy little mistake, and they go all mushy on ya.
Now I’m gonna have to put up with Eddie and Lumpy and Whitey and Gilbert givin’ me the business.
I’ll show that ol’ girl. I’ll get this problem licked…
Ha! Told ya I was workin’ on it.
Speaking of breaks, why can’t Hustle and Flow get one? Crash was nominated for Best Picture, and it wasn’t? It truly is hard out here for a pimp!
People may care less about the Academy nominations than the Columbia mayoral race. I’d never presume to suggest an entire blog entry on the subject; I just thought someone might want to kick the golden ball around.
I guess I should have seen this coming when Braveheart won Best Picture when Babe so clearly deserved it.
Looks like Lauren likes you Brad! I know her, I’ll put in a good word!! First thing is first though, she likes boys with contacts, not glasses, just wanted to give you a heads up.
See, I knew the guys would start givin’ me the business!
As for the Oscars, I gave up on them when "Shakespeare in Love" — at best a mildly amusing frolic — got "Best Picture" the same year "Saving Private Ryan" and "Life is Beautiful" were nominated.
Here’s something I wrote back just before that happened.
Looks like Laurin has jump started the blogging learning curve 🙂
The encouraging thing about the Oscars is the increasing recognition of indie films. It’s always been pretty arbitrary(Hitchcock never….),but my pet outrage is when “Gandhi” won out over “E.T.”
Firstly, I admire Laurin’s dedication to her blog. Wish I could focus my efforts online to produce something half as worthy. For that matter, I’ll tip my hat to Brad, too, for creating something here to which I’ve become semi-addicted. Now, if I could only get back into Herbert’s good graces…:)
Brad, I agree wholeheartedly with your doc. and alternate choices over Shakespeare in Love. As far as comedies, how in the world did Kung Fu Hustle get totally sidekicked? I wish more American directors were making films half as imaginative and hilarious as those of Stephen Chow.
I know we could all make logs of the undeserved as well as “diss” lists (Gladiator as Best Pic? WTH?), but am I, or we, just elitist in our viewing tastes?
I think Crash is a prime example of the type of film we DON’T need. It is overly simplisitic and just plain “tries to hard.” Was this just the token ethnic film proffered up by the old men and women of the Academy or am I off base? I mean, Hustle and Flow, be you a rap fan or not, juggles complex and lasting themes masterfully, even better than its producer John SIngleton did in his best and most praised film Boyz in the Hood.
I’m just asking questions here. Sometimes the Academy gets it so right, and then these inexplicable nominations leave me wondering if someone had loaded gats aimed at their heads.
Well the scuttlebutt at the time was that the muscle behind "Shakespeare" essentially bought it.
I guess they atoned for that evil by bankrolling The Lord of Rings Trilogy, but then are plunged back into the fire again by offering us the red pill, the laughable Matrix trilogy.
O, you Weinsteins!
