Shocker: Sanford’s favorite club backs Nikki

Chad Walldorf at the SC Club for Growth is a nice, sincere guy, and I’ve always liked Nikki Haley. But both of them are so in step with Mark Sanford that there’s not a bit of surprise in this:

The S.C. Club for Growth has endorsed the Republican gubernatorial bid of Lexington Rep. Nikki Haley. Club chairman Chad Walldorf said Haley bets fits the group’s belief in limited government and free market principles.”We have seen Representative Haley’s incredible work in the South Carolina legislature and are thrilled to have a candidate with her track record running for our state’s top office,” Walldorf said in a statement. “As our governor, Nikki Haley will continue to make South Carolina more business friendly, protect our hard-earned tax dollars, and perhaps most importantly, shine a light on the darkest corners of state bureaucracy.”…

What a surprise. They are seemingly cut from the same cloth. Another reason to not vote for Nikki.

Elizabeth – You obviously are not a Republican. I support core Republican values and Nikki stands for them. I will be voting for her.

Well, I have heard other comments on this blog and others that she is “Sanford in a skirt”.

What I don’t get is she wants to “run government as a business”. Government doesn’t produce a product; there are no manufacturing factories. Government does provide services, law enforcement, fire protection, education, roads. Can you imagine the chaos if the citizens could pick and choose their own law enforcement services, fire protection services, road building and maintenance?

Wayne, you seem to suggest that to be a Republican means to support Nikki — which makes no sense.

Obviously, there are many kinds of Republicans. Increasingly, Nikki is positioning herself as one rather narrow variety — the Mark Sanford kind. Most Republicans in South Carolina — particularly most Republican officeholders — are NOT that kind of Republican.

Pretty much by definition, what the Club for Growth is saying is that there’s a difference between Republicans, and they are supporting Nikki rather than those other Republicans because she’s THEIR kind — which, once again, is Mark Sanford’s kind.

Over the years, we have learned that no matter what our governor does or says, no matter how much he alienates himself from the rest of his party in SC, there are two constituencies that always supported him: The editorial board of The Wall Street Journal, and the Club for Growth.

For that reason, this endorsement of Nikki speaks volumes.

None of the Republican candidates for Governor set me on fire.

I reckon I’ll vote in the Democrat primary. I just wish there was a Democrat running for Treasurer! Chellis definitely doesn’t deserve another term after losing $60M from DOR! DOR’s head should also be replaced in this $60M loss debacle!

Loftis is an unknown. His LinkedIn profile provides very little about his success as a business owner, http://www.linkedin.com/pub/curtis-m-loftis-jr/5/ba5/a08. His Wikipedia page was deleted by administrators, probably because there was nothing noteworthy of him and Wikipedia determined that it was resume puffery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curt_Loftis

Apparently, ReformSC is about to go to bat for Nikki, which really sort of goes without saying. If one pro-Sanford group backs her, so will the other. This is the other shoe dropping.

A common denominator in both groups is loyal Sanford friend Chad Walldorf, who helped found “Sticky Fingers” restaurants.

This one means more, though, because this manifestation of that same political clique is taking out TV ad time. The idea is to support her roll-call voting initiative.

I think Brad said it best. Wayne can not possibly know how I will vote, other than what I said very plainly. I could be voting for a republican, without liking Nikki. Thank you, Brad.
