This was among the frozen goods offered for sale at a local Aldi.

OK, no more Homer for the moment. Let’s move on.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these, and I expect it to be harder than it used to be, but here goes…

  1. Man told he’d have to pay $2.4 million for school pollution records — OK, this one grabbed me. Usually, an agency that wants to say “F___ you!” to a citizen’s public records request will charge, say, $100. Prices really are rising, aren’t they? By the way, the agency involved is one of the two that we used to call DHEC.
  2. Speaking of prices going up… — This refers to the picture at the top of this post. My source failed to check the price, but if it was a nickel, that would be five cents more than anyone should have to pay for ice cubes. But you know, the moment we first paid for water in bottles, we should have known this was bound to happen. Me, I’m gonna keep making my own, like our hunter-gatherer ancestors.
  3. Trump Threatens Canada With Tariffs for Wildfire Smoke Over U.S. — So… a bad thing happens to Canada, and Canada struggles to deal with it, so he proposes to punish Canada for it? I guess it makes as much sense as persecuting people for coming here from countries where they are starving and/or oppressed. You see why I don’t read as much “news” as I used to? This is what it’s like.
  4. Nicaragua’s President Ortega says no more elections — He’s been the dictator there for 20 years now. So much for those idealistic Sandinistas, huh? Elections? He don’t need no estinking elections! (Yeah, I know that’s from a Mexican character, but it’s all I could think of…)
  5. Red Sox are one win from tying their record for longest win streak — You knew I’d get to this, right? As of last night, they’d won 14 games in a row. If they win tonight — the game starts in less than an hour — they’ll tie the franchise record of 15 straight. And that was in 1946, when they had Ted Williams at his peak. See? I gave you some good news…
