"I sense Jack’s sense is senseless," said Bob McAlister of his "good friend" Jack Bass.
In a never-ending quest for that thing they call "balance," I had called longtime self-styled GOP savant McAlister to get some perspective on what a colleague had termed Jack’s "wishful thinking."
"That’s just a Democrat seeing a passing fancy," Bob said of Jack’s "sense" at midafternoon that the governor, while winning, will not do as well as expected against Oscar Lovelace. (In an effort to define, "as expected," I called my good friend and colleague Lee Bandy, who said the figure Mr. Sanford needed to avoid embarrassment would be "70 and above." I went to Lee because he is far more schooled in the realm of political prognostication than I.)
Bob stressed again that he considers Jack to be a friend.
"I think probably he’s sensing that rarified professorial atmosphere to which he has become accustomed in recent years," added the competing blogger.
"I’ll make this prediction: I predict that Mark Sanford will win," said Bob. "Oscar-Mayer Lovelace is gonna get in the mid-twenties."
On turnout front, Bob said when he voted at the Wildewood precinct at 1 or 1:15, "I was the only one there, I think." (A disturbing sidelight on that: "Rusty DePass was watching the poll.")
Oh, one more thing: Bob wanted me to make sure I told everybody that Jack is an old friend of his. I said OK.
Statewide Sanford’s looking good right now – but is cause for alarm that at this point, with nearly of a quarter of the precincts in, he’s actually losing in Lexington County?
One can hope.
I guess The Weiner topped that mid-twenties, huh Bob? And, sure enough, -or Sanford lost Lexington, something even David Beasley couldn’t manage.
Sanford ran the Un-campaign and saved his money, energy, and chips for the general election. Not surprisingly, Bandy is reading all kinds of negativity into Sanford’s smashing victory while praising the heck out of Moore’s victory while Moore actually pulled a smaller % of total democrats. The cross-over vote isnt being mentioned either. I noticed Brad didnt mention on ETV last night that he had coached Democrats to vote GOP. These crossovers surely did NOT vote for Sanford. How about some truth in reporting?
Now that Sanford is running against a bigtime tax and spend guy, let the real battle begin.
Brad: I was just kidding when I said Oscar Mayer-Lovelace would just be in the twenties. Moreover, you took my quotes out of context and, in some cases, misquoted me. I blame it all on the press. Maybe the professorial atmosphere ain’t so bad after all. Gotta go find a toothpick. Got a piece of humble pie stuck in my teeth.
That caption on the photo accompanying your Lt. Governor article is just pathetic. If there are any true journalists at The State they must be cringing in embarrassment.
(And I don’t even LIKE Bauer)
In a never-ending quest for that thing they call “balance,” I had called longtime self-styled GOP savant McAlister
Is it not sufficient that “GOP savant” McAlister has his own sponsored blog on The State’s sister website?
Whom would YOU have called, kc? Andre?
And which Andre post? I looked at the "official" one I did based on the interview with him, and there is no caption. I’m not being obtuse here, I just need help finding the bad thing I did so I can see whether I want to defend myself or slink away…
Whom would YOU have called, kc? Andre?
Boy, you really missed the point.
And which Andre post?
I didn’t say “post.” I said “article.” Look at the front page of The State’s website. Carroll Campbell is identified as the Lieutenant Governor.
Btw, I did say “your” Lt Governor article. By which I meant “The State’s,” not yours. My mistake, I should have been more clear, and probably should have vented in the comments section following that article (as I see a couple of people have already done)
Darn, now I just went and said “Carroll Campbell” when I should have said “Mike Campbell.”
Don’t know how I could possibly have made that mistake. 😉
I should probably quit while I’m behind on this one.
Don’t sweat it. I made a mistake myself once.
