2nd Congressional District debate last night

2nddebate

Excuse me forgetting, but these things I do — I failed to let y’all know in advance that I’d be on the panel of the 2nd Congressional District debate on ETV last night. I know y’all would have stopped what you were doing to watch and all, what with the World Series being delayed another day….

In case you’d still like to see it, here’s the video below. And here’s the ETV page with links to all of the congressional debates. I only did the 2nd District one because it was the only one in the Midlands that looked like any sort of a competition. And whether it is or not is hard to say. I think ex-Capt. Rob Miller, USMC, is well positioned to take advantage of the Obama Effect. But you just can’t count out a Republican incumbent in the 2nd District.

As Blease Graham said to my Rotary the other day, if you want to beat Joe Wilson (or, back in the day, the late Floyd Spence) in that district, you’d better come into Lexington County with a 26,000-vote lead. That’s a tall hill to climb, even for the Marines.

Anyway, here’s the video. And thanks to Chris Berry of The State‘s photo staff for the photo above, in which you get to see just how geeky I look in my Jimmy Olsen sweater vest and bowtie. He apologizes for the quality of the photo, by the way — says if he knew I’d have been asking for an overall shot such as this, he’d have made sure to get a better one. I told him not to worry; this is way better than what y’all are used to on this blog, and that anything better would just spoil all of you.

The questions were shallow and predictable, and Joe Wilson gave canned answers, with no explanation of his positions.
Rob Miller’s responses to everything was nothing but Democrat party line sound bites. If he actually understands anything about any issue, he missed an opportunity to reveal it here, by not explaining WHY or HOW his views were right. But then, they weren’t his views, just memorized slogans.

    Lee,
Vhy is it that the truly brilliant are doomed to a life of obscurity, surrounded by a sea of mediocrity, only to end up covered in sores in a pool of their own filth?

Ask an Obama supporter why they live like that, but they will probably blame “the rich whites and Jews”.

    Brad,
Is the state going to endorse either candidate for District 2? I like the smooth wordpressy design for thestate.com but finding some information is a bit more difficult.
And speaking of endorsements, what about between Ketner and Brown?

Brad, I had to laugh at the photo. The bow-tie does look a bit dorky.
This seems to be an excercise in futility. Wilson will hold this seat until he retires or runs for higher office (senate, governor or VP). I don’t much like Wilson but I have a bit of respect for him in that his son is (or has been) serving in Iraq. He’s no chickenhawk.

I believe any open-minded person who watches the debate will vote for Miller.
Is there anyone in Congress who was a bigger rubber stamp for Bush than Wilson? This District deserves better.
The First District debate is worth watching online. I’m not in that district, but I don’t know how anyone can vote for Brown.

I just happened to catch the debate on ETV. Miller doesn’t exactly blow me away, but I’ve disliked Wilson for years… I’ll be voting to give Miller a shot at the title.
And, for the record, I think the geek look is a good one for you… kind of a British Gentlemen’s Club thing!

I wish some reporter had known enough about the issues to ask how they felt about the Democrats’ plans to confiscate the 401-k money.
They have been holding hearings on it this month.
I wish someone would defeat those two disgraceful clowns, Clyburn and Spratt.
Spratt sits on the Banking Committee with crooks like Barney Frank and does nothing while Democrats create junk loans for bad-credit blacks and 5,000,000 illegal Mexicans to buy homes, default on payments, and cause a banking crash.
