Hey, how about them ‘Cocks?

I don’t often get the chance to say that. At least, if I said it, I normally wouldn’t mean it — in the sense of suggesting some sort of interest on my part.

That’s because one hears it too seldom in connection with baseball.

But now, with the Gamecocks poised on the verge of winning the College World Series — well, that causes me to sit up and pay attention, and care for a change. Why last night, I even got indignant — the way real fans do — when the ESPN announcer said something extremely dismissive about Blake Cooper, to the effect that of course, the pros won’t be interested in him…

The very idea of talking about a kid that way on the biggest night of his life.

Anyway, I’ll be cheering for them tonight. You?

Abolutely I will be cheering for the Gamecocks! Yea, the announcers were a wee bit biased. You’d think UCLA wasn’t playing on the same field with the same shadows and using aluminum bats just like our guys to hear them talk. After all, apparently, only 2 of our hits were “legit”. Whatever. We are winning.

Wouldn’t it be nicer if we were tops in something academic? I know, the International MBA program scores highly, as does Library Sciences–both masters level program,s but….

I have been cheering for the Gamecocks to make a return trip to Omaha. Black Cooper put in a phenomenal performance last night. Michael Roth did great pitching Saturday against Clemson. He’s a relief pitcher, but he pitched a full game. My wife and I will be watching and cheering tonight. GO COCKS!

The ESPN announcers were really biased last night. Every thing that went right for the Gamecocks was some type of fluke. According to them the UCLA pitcher was just having an atrocious night. Did the Gamecock players have anything to do with that? Apparently not if you listened to the announcers.

As for Blake Cooper the guy was just a rank amateur in their eyes. Blake had a better ERA and winning percentage in a far superior conference yet if you listened to the announcers he wasn’t worthy of carrying the jock strap of the UCLA pitcher. Pretty shameful coverage I thought.

The Marine Science program is also highly ranked, or at least used to be…back when I spent a year in it. I changed my mind several times.

ESPN – extraverted sports perceiving nitwits?
