I’m starting to slosh, I’m drinking so much water. And I doubled up on my iron pills yesterday, to make sure I don’t get rejected (I hate it when that happens).
I’m giving blood over at the American Red Cross on Bull Street at 11:30 today. Hopefully (if the iron is high enough), I’ll get to do the double-red-cell thing.
You should come join me…
They won’t take my blood anymore since I still spend months at a time in places where every variety of hepatitis is prevalent and malaria prophylaxis is a daily addition to your vitamins.
However, good on you, Brad!
Sorry, already gave 2 weeks ago, you should get our Governor to give though the traveling overseas and sex questions might disqualify him. After reading The State this morning it would probably be the only useful thing he has done in a long while.
My iron level was 14.5 (minimum requirement is 13.3), so I’m about to give double red cells!
The blood donor parked next to me at the Red Cross drives a Prius. Dang. I’ve been one-upped on self-righteousness…
Hey, this is looking good.
Nice new look for the blog, Brad. And good for you for giving blood. Now I feel like I have to go down…
Would someone explain to me why the Red Cross won’t take my blood because I lived in England for 11 months in 1980-1981, during which I was a poor student who ate virtually no beef, on the remote chance I have mad cow disease, yet people are actually dying, they say, for lack of donated blood?
kb, you answered your own question.
Nobody knows how long it takes for those little prions to incubate in a human in order to produce BSE (vCJD). And, in England at least, some cases have been attributed to transfused blood.
At least you’re honest enough to admit your travels. A lessor person might just decide to go for self-gratification over morals and ethics.
